“…the city goes soft; it awaits the imprint of an identity. For better or worse, it invites you to remake it, to consolidate it into a shape you can live in. You, too. Decide who you are, and the city will again assume a fixed form around you. Decide what it is, and your own identity will be revealed, like a position on a map fixed by triangulation.
The city as we imagine it, the soft city of illusion, myth, aspiration, nightmare, is as real, maybe more real, than the hard city one can locate on maps in statistics, in monographs on urban sociology and demography and architecture.”
– An excerpt from Soft City by Jonathan Raban
Soft City Lights is an experimental video project that was conceived in September of 2007 with the goal of creating online HD short films profiling Cincinnati based artists, happenings and well, whatever I feel. It’s since also become an outlet for documenting lounge acts for online radio station WOXY.com. If I can remember to pay my car payment, maybe we’ll expand to other cities in the midwest. There are no guidelines. It arose because I love this city and the things going on here, and I like to document the things that I love. Having access to a Canon XH-A1 HD camera helped push me to try this out. There is no money being made from this site right now. There are no ads selling you cheap pills or stock advice. But please contact me if you’d like to donate or sponsor.
